Skinwalker Ranch – The Basics
Hello readers! I’ve done it. I’ve decided to dive into the depth of crazy info and over the top stories to bring you all a few great blogs on one of the weirdest places in the America! Because there is so much information around this location, I am going to break it into a handful of blogs so you can get a clear picture of how crazy this place really is.
So please consider this part one of how ever many it takes to do this story right.
What is Skinwalker Ranch?
It’s a ranch. A huge one and a haunted one. Or rather one that is filled with hauntings and MORE. In the last 27 years people have experienced basically everything in the spiritual spectrum. Ghosts. Ufos. Unexplained lights. Cattle mutilation. Unexplained illness. Animals that look or act unnatural. Poltergeist activity and more!
It’s a smorgasbord of paranormal activity!
Can you guess how much I wanna go?!
I’ll start going into detail on the weird stories in my next blog. Today we need some of the history and general information about the land so you have a basis of where this is all taking place. Skinwalker Ranch is located in the northeast corner of Utah. Just south of the city of Ballard.
It covers 512 acres of an area known as “The Uinta Basin”. This basin is well known for its UFO sightings and cattle mutilations going back to the 1970s.
Why is it called Skinwalker Ranch?
Technically the ranch itself was known by the name of the person who owned it. IE The Sherman Ranch. These days it is called Skinwalker ranch because of a local legend that a skinwalker cursed the land and that was what instigated the paranormal activity.
The Ownership History
1934-1994
Kenneth and Edith Myers were the original owners of the ranch. There doesn’t seem to be any documented stories from this family but local stories from neighbors indicate unexplainable activity was happening even though they weren’t talking about it.
1994-1996
Terry and Gwen Sherman bought the ranch from the Myers. It didn’t take long before they were experiencing some pretty strange things. Their stories started to be posted in local newspapers in 1996 and now there are books and documentaries on them.
1996-2016
Robert Bigelow purchased the ranch from the Shermans. He then created his own paranormal research group in order to study the activity happening in the area. Mr. Bigelow is the owner of Budget Suites of America as well as the founder of a company called Bigelow Aerospace. They specialize in aeronautics and outer space technology like building space station modules. So a weird haunted and UFO ridden ranch was right up his alley.
2016-Present
A man by the name of Brandon Fugal bought the ranch from Mr. Bigelow. Mr. Fugal is also using the area for research of paranormal activity but from more of a scientific standpoint, as well as raising public awareness on the reality of these types of other worldly places. They have a really cool website, books, a Netflix series…all kinds of fun ways to learn about the Ranch.
I think that’s a pretty good place to stop for today. Next week I’ll start getting into some of the experiences people have had while on the ranch!
