That’s not Clair!
I would absolutely love to give you a historical breakdown of how these the follow terms and our use of them came about. They are such fun terms after all. Sadly though, there is very little information out there regarding them.
We know they have a French basis. We know they were common terms by the 1800s when the Spiritualist movement took hold of the world. Beyond that…only spirit knows.
Maybe they were created and passed around in the Spiritualist movement. Maybe they’re so old they simply have no real origin we can pinpoint. Either way they are so ingrained in the world of spirituality that you can’t go very far without running into them. So I do think they’re important to have a basic understanding of.
What are these terms?
They are often referred to as “The Clairs”.
Their meanings are simple.
Clear Seeing, Clear Hearing, Clear Feeling, Clear Smelling, Clear Tasting,
Clear Knowing.
But because of their country of origin, and the fact that we like being fancy in the spiritual world, we say them all in French!
Let’s break them down a bit shall we?
Clairvoyance - Clear Vision
Being able to see things that are beyond the normal human ability. Some examples of this ability are being able to see spirits, having psychic visions or dreams and/or seeing auroras.
Clariaudience –Clear Hearing
Being able to hear things beyond the normal human ability. Some examples of this are hearing the thoughts of others, hearing voices of spirits and hearing sounds that are not from the environment around them.
Clairgustance - Clear Tasting
Being able to taste things without using the normal human ability. Some examples of this are tasting foods you’ve never eaten while someone is talking about them or experiencing seemingly random
tastes when you are not eating.
Clairsentience – Clear Feeling.
Being able to feel things beyond the normal human ability. Some examples of this are feeling emotions of other people, feeling the energy of an area or event and getting impressions of past events or the energy of others by touching objects.
Clairalience - Clear Smelling
Being able to smell scents without using the normal human ability. Some examples of this are smelling scents that others don’t or are not in the environment around them.
Claircognizance – Clear Knowing.
Being able to know information without any previous reference or knowledge on the subject and without using standards senses to deduce the information. Some examples of these are knowing something is going to happen before it does and knowing specifics about people or events that you have never known or been to.
Everyone has these senses built in but not everyone uses them or notices them when they do use them.
Just like regular senses not every person has access to every one of these senses. Some use them all and some only use one or two. Some use them regularly, some infrequently. Some are strong. Some are hardly noticeable.
Some psychics who don’t have the matching physical sense, such as sight or hearing, are still able to access the spiritual sense associated with those things. Further proving that the basic senses and psychic senses don’t work in tandem.
