Upright Meaning

Keywords:

Faith – Religious Beliefs – Conformity – Tradition – Educational Systems

Rituals – Social Groups

As a Person:

The Hierophant is someone who accepts and embraces traditional beliefs. He follows what is known and doesn’t like to deviate from what has been proven to work. He defines himself and others by whether or not they do the same. He may be an authority or teacher of religious beliefs. He lives a life that is structured and easily measured.

As a Situation/Experience:

The situation is based around having to conform. You may be learning through a large and measured education system such as public school or church of some kind. It is a time of following what is taught with mindless devotion and not questioning what your teachers say to be true.

As Advice:

Have faith. Believe in what you are learning and what others know. Allow yourself to be taught by those who have tread the path before you. Now is not a time to step outside the lines. Follow the rules for now and keep the peace.

Reversed Meaning

Keywords:

Personal Belief System – Freedom – Uniqueness – Going against Tradition

Personal Power – Rebellion – Feeling Restricted

As a Person:

The Hierophant reversed is someone who lives their life outside of societal norm. He embraceshis own uniqueness. He decides for himself what he believes even if it is different from those around him. He may be considered rebellious but he is just trying to define his own life and not be told how his is supposed to be.

As a Situation/Experience:

The situation has you feeling restrained and like you are being held by too many rules. You can feel the need to step outside the social norm and take your life and your beliefs into your own hands. You are questioning what you have been taught and distinguishing what feels right to you and what does not.

As Advice:

Question everything. Do not blindly believe everything you are told. Feel the truth for yourself. You know what is right for you. Follow your own instincts and not the teachings of others. Take your own power back and you will no longer be restricted.
